About The CE Scheme
These placements offer participants the chance to work alongside our dedicated staff and volunteers, supporting youth work programmes and contributing to community-based projects. Some participants are also placed with valued partner organisations, including: Gort FamilyResource Center, Loughrea Family Resource Centre, Amach LGBT Centre, Galway Autism Partnership, Citizens Information Service and No.4 Youth Service.
How It Works
Participants work 19.5 hours per week, gaining hands-on experience, building confidence, and accessing a wide range of training opportunities provided through both Youth Work Ireland Galway and the CE Scheme.
All training is delivered within a Quality Assured Framework, enabling participants to earn FETAC Awards and Qualifications that can lead to Major Awards on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) . Many former participants have successfully transitioned into full-time employment thanks to the skills and qualifications gained during their placement.

"I was quite nervous starting in my role but once I got into the swing of things, I understood the importance of youth work in the young peoples’ lives. My main responsibilities included helping with the set up and running of youth groups. The staff gave excellent support and answered any questions and offered advice whenever I needed. "

"I had many trainings during my placement including Child Protection, Health and Safety and many more. I’ve learned how to work with groups of young people, and many workshop skills. I am very thankful for this opportunity, after my placement, I was successful in joining the youth work team."

"I had been out of work for nearly 2 years and was starting to feel I would never find employment. Joining the CE Scheme in Youth Work Ireland Galway gave me back my confidence. I quickly realised the value of working with a team and meeting people everyday. I learned so much in a short period, and was fortunate enough to join the team full-time."
