Empowering Young Voices Across Galway

Galway County Comhairle na nÓg provides a powerful platform for young people to shape local and national policies on the issues that matter most to them. Supported by Galway County Council and the Department of Education and Youth, members meet monthly to discuss youth concerns, engage directly with decision-makers, and lead meaningful change in their communities

Each year, the group hosts a county-wide Youth Conference, where young people vote on key topics affecting their lives. The elected theme becomes the council’s annual focus, guiding research, collaboration, and advocacy efforts with local and national stakeholders.

What we do:

  • Monthly meetings to address youth issues
  • Annual Youth Conference with county-wide participation
  • Direct engagement with Galway County Council and other decision-makers
  • Youth-led campaigns and consultations

2024–2025 Focus

  • Youth Mental Health & Homework Stress

Galway County Comhairle na nÓg is more than a forum, it’s a movement for youth empowerment, civic responsibility, and collaborative leadership

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be confident?
Your confidence will grow with Comhairle na nOg and so you don’t need to be confident to join. All you need is a desire to create change and to represent youth voices on issues that matter to young people. We especially welcome diversity and young people who might not get the chance to have their voices heard in other areas.
Do I have to be on the school student council?
Comhairle na nOg is a separate council representing the entire County of Galway and not connected to school youth councils. In fact, we really welcome young people who might not be involved in other things.
