What we do:

SAUTI-Youth (Sustainable Accountability Uniting Tanzanian and Irish Youth) is a project that aims to meaningfully engage young people in the governance process in relation to climate policies. This process involves ensuring young people’s ideas and input are taken into consideration when policies and laws around climate are decided.

To tackle climate change, a structural change is needed in our society. We need to rethink how society works on all levels, because that is how effective change happens.

The SAUTI-Youth project monitors local government commitments and spending on climate action and engages with local authorities so that the young people involved can become active contributors in shaping the society we live in, especially through the ways in which climate action pans out.

The project involves linking up with young people in Galway and in Tanga, Tanzania. Despite living in different contexts, we are facing similar issues - limited government accountability and lack of knowledge and capacity on climate change mitigation.

The project’s activities included delivering workshops in schools and with youth groups on topics related to climate, as well as offering after-school climate action groups where young people could learn more about how they could get involved. We also facilitated youth groups engagement with their local community, through awareness raising campaigns using creative methodologies.

SAUTI-Youth has successfully built a collaborative relationship between young people and the local authorities in Galway. Through innovative local youth climate assemblies, young people across Galway City and County have actively contributed to Climate Action Plans.

Delivering workshops in schools and youth groups on climate justice and sustainability. Our programme empowers young people to take action on climate related issues by:

• Delivering workshops in schools and youth groups on climate justice and sustainability.

• Supporting after-school climate action groups where young people can explore how to make a difference in their communities.

• Facilitating youth-led campaigns and creative awareness-raising projects that engage the wider community.
